Best Mexican Restaurants in Vacaville

One of my favorite things about living and working in Vacaville is we have some awesome Mexican restaurants. There are a variety of styles of cuisine as well as atmospheres to choose from.

From small chains to long-standing family owned restaurants, Vacaville has some of the best Mexican Food Restaurants in Solano County (in my humble opinion). Here’s our list of best Mexican food restaurants in Vacaville

Los Reyes – Best Overall

Los Reyes takes the spot for our best overall Mexican restaurant in Vacaville. It’s a great combination of food, atmosphere, location and service.

Los Reyes Restaurant is located right in the heart of Downtown Vacaville. It offers indoor and outdoor seating, a fabulous full bar and a delicious menu of cuisine.

The bar area offers a completely different atmosphere from the more formal dining area.

The staff is friendly, service is great and they’ve got some amazing chips and salsa.

Our Favorites:

  • Happy Hour
  • Quesadilla
  • Fajitas

Murillo’s – Best Family Restaurant

Murillo’s is a family owned Mexican restaurant that’s operated at its Merchant Street location for over 50 years. In the 1980s, the family expanded to a second location (Murillo’s #2) on Monte Vista.

Being one of the first Mexican food restaurants in the area, Mrs. Murillo refined her recipes to meet the tastes of locals. The business has been supporting local sports and events such as the Fiesta Days for decades.

But let’s get to the tasty part. Murillo’s has a taste that is classic Vacaville. If you grew up here, chances are you enjoyed some family meals at Murillo’s.

The Monte Vista location is larger and has a full bar, but the original site still operates and is a favorite spot of many for downtown lunches.

Our Favorites:

  • Grilled Chicken Salad
  • The Paco Special
  • Margarita Menu

Vasquez Deli – Best Deli

Another downtown location AND long-time family run business is my favorite Mexican deli – Delicatessen Vasquez. A part of vacaville dining since 1976, “Vasquez Deli” as it’s known by locals is known for their flavorful burritos with pita-like tortillas and hot sauce. They’re also well known for their involvement in the community, having had a float in the Vacaville Fiesta Days every year since they opened.

Vasquez Deli is much more of a quick bite and lunch spot than some others on the list, but take a few minutes to look at the pictures and other tokens of Vacaville history that adorn the walls of the dining room.

Our Favorites:

  • Pork Burrito
  • Carnitas Taco

Azteca

You probably won’t find this place by accident, but those who know where it is make the trip for a reason. It’s traditional Mexican cuisine done right – with optional outdoor seating and a full cantina.

Whether it’s a family dinner, some drinks at the bar or a pickup order, you’ll get your money’s worth at Azteca.

Our Favorites:

  • Fiesta Taco Sampler
  • Menudo
  • Veggie Quesadilla

Pelayo’s

Pelayo’s is another traditional favorite on our list of best Mexican food in Vacaville. The restaurant is fancily decorated with many private booths and an awesome salsa bar. It has a unique vibe and some specialty menu items that pack some heat if you like it spicy. It’s conveniently located and well-suited for both date nights and family meals.

Taqueria El Tejaban

This place has mastered their chicken recipe among many other things.

It may not look like much from the outside, but try the salsa at Taqueria El Tejaban (I have to laugh because my wife mistakenly called it “Taliban” for a year before I corrected her).

It’s not a fancy dining room, it’s a taqueria. But order something with chicken in it and you’ll see why it’s on the list.

Our Favorites:

  • Chicken Super Burrito
  • Chicken Tacos
  • Ceviche

Tacos Jalisco – Best Taqueria

Tucked away in downtown Vacaville, Tacos Jalisco will always have a special place in my heart because of their salsa verde. It’s green, it comes in a squeeze bottle and it goes well on everything.

Red and green salsa with chips on a table.

I personally enjoy the carne asada burritos, but you really can’t lose at this place – especially if you go with the green sauce!

Seriously….try the green sauce!

Our Favorites:

  • Carne Asada Burrito
  • Enchiladas Rancheras
  • The Green Sauce!

Favela’s

Favela’s is another restaurant on the list that you might drive by without noticing if you’re not looking.

It’s tucked away in the Vacaville Commons Shopping Center. Favela’s would win the contest for best atmosphere per square foot. It’s elegantly decorated and just an all-around good place to eat.

This is a secondary location for the larger “Favela’s Mexican Grill” and “Favela’s Fusion” restaurants in Fairfield – also great eats with a little more formal vibe.

Our Favorites:

  • Bean and Cheese Burrito (Even for the grown-ups)
  • Shrimp Enchiladas

Villa Corona

Villa Corona is a small chain of family-owned restaurants with its roots in Napa. They actually have two locations in Vacaville and one of them is in the middle of the popular Nut Tree Shopping Center.

It’s a nice, authentic Mexican restaurant that won’t break the bank. The next time you’re shopping at the Nut Tree, stop in for lunch!

Our Favorites:

  • Fish Tacos
  • Chicken Taco Salad
  • Enchiladas Suizas

Baldo’s – Best for Late Night

If you grew up in Vacaville, you might get a chuckle seeing Baldo’s on the list.

It’s a little different from the rest of this list. It’s Mexican Fast Food. It’s open 24 hours and nothing tastes better at 2:00 in the morning (sorry Taco Bell).

Seriously though the food is pretty good – especially their breakfast items.

Our Favorites:

  • Breakfast Burritos!
  • Carne Asada Fries
