Best Sandwich Restaurants in Vacaville

Vacaville boasts a variety of places to eat, and sandwich shops are not in short supply. Here’s our list of sandwich restaurants in Vacaville to try. Yes, some of them are chains but we’ve excluded Vacaville’s six Subway locations from the list (sorry Subway!)

West Coast Sourdough

A personal favorite of ours is West Coast Sourdough on Elmira Road in the CVS Shopping Center. The sourdough bread is amazing. While they have a long list of great sandwiches, our recommendation is the pastrami.

Just try it. You’ll thank us later.

La Borgata Italian Deli

A local favorite situated on Main Street in downtown Vacaville, La Borgata was opened 2010 by Marianna Luliano who is known for her cookbook for Italian family recipes, “La Bella Molisana.”

In addition to delicious Italian sandwiches, you’ll find Italian desserts and local wines. It’s a great place to grab a bite downtown. The dining room has the charm of a local deli – because it is one.

Beach Hut Deli

While not unique to Vacaville, the Beach Hut Deli’s surfer-themed sandwiches offer some variety to the local offerings. Their creations include the Malibu (pastrami), The Woody (roast beef) and my favorite, the Shark Bite – which seems to have a little bit of everything on it (get a napkin).

If you’re eating in, they’ve got a cool dining area with tables made out of wooden surf boards and a surprisingly good selection of beer on tap.

Ike’s Love and Sandwiches

“This ain’t your momma’s sandwich shop” is the slogan for Ike’s Love and Sandwiches. Voted best sandwich in the world (by the founder’s mother) the chain boasts some attitude. Ike’s first opened in San Francisco in 2007 and has some innovative fusion of sandwich styles. Try their secret “Dirty Sauce” for an extra kick.

The Vacaville location is on Davis Street next to Brendan Theaters, so consider giving them a try the next time you see a movie.

Mr. Pickle’s

Good ole’ Mr. Pickle’s! A ridiculous name but some awesome sandwiches. Try their meatball sandwich, French dip or specialties like the “Big Jake” or the original “Mr. Pickle” sandwich. They don’t skimp on portions and have a great variety of hot and cold sandwiches to choose from.

Located on Monte Vista Avenue near Downtown, this is a favorite of downtown workers and students from nearby Vacaville High School.

Nugget Market

Nugget is a grocery store, we know.

But their deli has some amazing creations placed between two slices of bread. They have a lot more than just sandwiches too!

Jersey Mike’s

Looking for a taste of the east coast? Get a sandwich from Jersey Mike’s and order it “Mike’s Way.” My favorite is the Italian, but they’ve got a great selection of hot sandwiches too. Jersey Mike’s is located on Leisure Town Road near I-80.

Boudin SF

The original Boudin Bakery in San Francisco is iconic. Well, you don’t have to go to the Embarcadero anymore to get their sourdough bowls. Boudin’s sandwiches, soups, gyros and… yes, their sourdough bowls, are available at the Boudin SF Cafe in Vacaville.

Boudin’s chain of 30 cafe locations brings the San Francisco taste (although maybe not the experience) to places lucky enough to have one.

And Vacaville is one of the lucky ones!

Boudin SF is located in the Nut Tree Plaza shopping center so it’s an ideal stop for out-of-towners and shoppers.

Diggers Deli

This one is absolutely not a chain. It’s a local classic.

Diggers Deli has been making sandwiches in Vacaville for over four decades. Although ownership has changed, the deli has been open in the Alamo Shopping Center since 1977. So locals have known about it for a long time.

Their menu includes breakfast sandwiches and they’ve got beer on tap and a decent selection of wines.

Panera

“Good food served in warm, welcoming spaces by people who care” is how Panera describes themselves. The chain was founded in St. Louis in 1987 and has many locations throughout northern California. Their food has a “clean” feel to it. Panera is located on E. Monte Vista Avenue across from the Nut Tree Plaza shopping center.

Of course, we may have missed some. Let us know if you have a suggestion to add to the list.
