City Bans Battery Facilities… For Now
In Tuesday’s meeting, the Vacaville City Council approved extending a moratorium on large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Last year, many neighbors objected when one such facility was being considered near North Village. Council may pass certain moratoriums as “Urgency Matters” to allow staff to review threats to public health and safety.
The Council voted on May 14th to adopt an interim moratorium for 45 days. By law, the moratorium may be extended up to two years. Tuesday’s vote approved that extension. City staff have 22 months to complete a feasibility study, develop emergency response protocols and seek public input. The ban on battery facilities will expire May 14th, 2026.
What’s the concern with BESS facilities? They occasionally erupt into impossible-to-extinguish fires.
County Orders Economic Impact Report for East Solano Plan
The Solano County Board of Supervisors received a presentation from the Registrar of Voters on the results of the signature verification for the California Forever development in East Solano County.
Although the well-attended meeting was limited in scope, the County Supervisors ordered staff to return in 30 days with an Economic Impact Report on the proposal.
Man Arrested for Shooting into Home on Chateau Drive
Early on Thursday morning, Vacaville Police responded to a call of gunshots in the 500 Block of Chateau Way. Multiple bullets were fired into a home and vehicle, but nobody was injured. Officers identified a suspect vehicle and Solano County Sheriff Deputies located it. The driver was a 27 year-old male from Vallejo and was in possession of an unregistered handgun. He was arrested and booked on several felony charges.
The shooting is believed to have been targeted and there is likely a relationship between the suspect and someone who resides at the home.
